Reeling from a sudden breakup, Casey Webb leaves Brooklyn, drives north, and settles in a sleepy mountain town in upstate New York. She’s convinced she’s happy being alone—until she reads the acknowledgments in her ex-boyfriend’s hit debut novel, thanking his new girlfriend “above all." Good thing Ben Mailer is in town. The hot, young Brooklyn-bound chef offers the perfect distraction. Soon the backwoods are heating up... But as their fling turns into more, the demands…

The title, the synopsis, even the photo built this book up for what I expected to be a mind blowing read. I was very disappointed. I do give Ms. Brooks many applause for plowing through to write her first book, it just wasn't the story that I had hyped myself up to read.

The first page of the book really drew me in. The scenery, the feelings and mood of Casey. It has the premise of a mystery story in the making. That quickly turned south.

Casey felt a bit whiny to me. For an adult in her later years compared to Ben, it's as though they were both teenagers. At first, Ben's character seemed likable, but that quickly changed the more I read in the book. Their chemistry seemed forced, almost like two friends trying to make a go at a relationship but not quite sure how to make one work.

I found myself drifting between trying to finish the book and wanting to skip through the entire thing. After the meeting with Ben, it felt rushed, forced, more in the young adult genre than in the adult contemporary.

I confess, the book didn't hold my attention at all to the end. I had skimmed 47-77% of the book. At that point I just couldn't finish and nor could I force myself to do so.

Insta-love, Insta-relationship, I was expecting a build up to love, to a relationship, to the problem, not to have it has an insta.

As I said, I do give Ms. Brooks props. I know how hard it is to write a book, put it out there and hope it's liked, even loved. It just wasn't a book for me.
