The Wife Between Us

The Wife Between Us
A novel of suspense that explores the complexities of marriage and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love. When you read this book, you will make many assumptions. You will assume you are reading about a jealous wife and her obsession with her replacement. You will assume you are reading about a woman about to enter a new marriage with the man she loves. You will assume the first wife was a…

The Wife Between Us is a mystery, thriller novel written by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen.

I was given the privilege to do a first impression on based on the cover, synopsis, and the first four chapters of the book.

I wasn’t sure what to expect or how much I could gain from only four chapters of a book.

The story is set up in two POVs, one is first person and the other is third person.

The story follows two women. Don’t be fooled by the title or the synopsis. Nothing is really as it seems.

Nellie is engaged is Richard and looking forward to their new life together. Her past still haunts her. We get bits and pieces of her past which is somewhat telling given the clues listed.

Richard, a prominent man in New York was previously married and left his wife. We aren’t told why but given her story we can make up our own guess, or can we?

From the first chapter I was skeptical if I would like this book. I don’t usually like to read first person POV as I think it takes away a lot from the story.

This book is different in that in perspective.

By chapter two I was sucked in and eagerly read every word. I’d nearly forgotten I was only reviewing the first four chapters of the book.

The overall tone is very suspenseful. You can’t guess what will happen next or even what you think will happen next.

I love that the authors have humanitized the characters. They’re likable and relatable.

It’s too early in the book to decide which character I like best. I do have my suspicions about Richard. Based on his ex-wife and his fiancée story there’s something about him that feels a little off. Again, this is just based on the four chapters.

The ex-wife I do feel for her. Her methods are dangerous to herself.

I’m intrigued by the story, the plot, the characters and the tone of the book. It’s definitely one I can get lost in and would recommend reading.
